New Day

The morning breeze - a balming breath
Relieved him in this doleful maze -
The labyrinth of grief and gloom -
Like shade hath vanished and diffused
At the sunrise; I did espy
One charming angel while
By haze across the North I was
Drifting 'mid Canadian rocks
Clad in serenity of snow; Boreas wind -
The wind of poesy, there dreams,
And lakes reflect these misty dreams...
I glanced upon one mirror-pond
And saw thy face - a paragon
Of beauty and of grace; please say
To me your name, O angel of Canadian lakes;
These strains - for thee, I see
The birds of dawn; they sing...
