Calling-Crying Song
دعاك الى طلب له فطلبته
He called thee to seek Him, and ye did.
Al-Junayd
When birds of eve begin to croon, the tune is on -
The song of parting fading day, it call
Thy heart, "Do hark! And hearken to these strains!"
Romance of love, this blush vermeil
Along the sky; a tide of passion, but
Do listen, lover, and regard...
Do not retard, not hesitate, but make
Respond... or the Beloved will go to wail
Broken hearted in the gloom, and moon
Will on His calling-crying song, "O you,
Who clad in sleep, awake, awake!
For night is deep, and life too short to stray..."
'Tis God who calleth thee, you feel
Desire in thy heart for art or learning or to seek
The secrets veiled, let not this feeling fade,
But make reply, for baleful wraith
Will try to steal thy dreams, the words away...
By worldly matters, or by hate, derision, bile,
Afraidest not, trust God, and follow the Divine.
The while the sun creeps on
The bourn of sky and brine; while flow
The melody of eventide, - this time is frail
And fleeting like a swallow's flight; avail
Of it, or it will sink and never back again.
