Tabriz. The Yellow Hill
تبریز. تپه زرد
Yellow hill, and Autumn yellow,
Even breeze got sullen, sallow.
Narrow pass, or maybe thus
Seems to me it only; passed
Remembrances in row, got yellow;
From October - only shallow...
Underneath my feet are leaves -
Auburn, russet whisperings...
Yellow feathers on the sky -
Cloud crumbled, then it dyed
In the colours: russet, red...
Lane is listening to my steps...
'Round the yellow hill I go
Trying riddle this to solve -
Who did make this lane around?
Yet another one more round...
Hung the evening burning low,
Blent the flame and doze below
Spell unknown caught me, in
The cage is pent the feeble finch...
Evening gloom embraced the flame,
Rolling, heaving crimson waves...
Thereamid I sit crestfallen,
Hear, sudden, someone's calling...
At the burning dusk I met
Dervish young in gown black...
Dervish: The seeker caught in snare of
His own mind and logic, oh!
فهم و خاطر تیز کردن، نیست راه
جُز شِکسته مینگیرد فَضْلِ شاه
موجِ خاکی، وَهْم و فَهْم و فِکرِ ماست
موجِ آبی، محو و سُکْرست و فَناست
Cognition, mind to sharpen - not the way,
The Lord to broken only gives the grace.
The wave terrene: To deem, and think, and understand,
The wave of sky: Fanā, and drunkness, to be erased.
Rumi, Masnavi 1:535,578
Me: But what to do, do say!
How may I scape?
Dervish:
گر تو سنگِ صَخْره و مَرمَر شَوی
چون به صاحِب دل رَسی، گوهر شَوی
If ye be stone of rock, or marbel, but
The jewel you'll become when reach the man of heart.
Rumi, Masnavi 1:725
Step closer to me, hark:
The resolution of this puzzle - not
To solve at all it, but
Whirl with us, ignite the heart!
اندر آیید ای همه پَروانهوار
اَنْدر این بَهره که دارد صد بهار
Hey, come in ye winged all as moths!
In this bliss wherein a many Springs of mirth!
Rumi, Masnavi 1:805
Surges rolling, reeling sky;
We are serving sacred rite...
For we worship only Love -
Name of God the most beloved;
With each breathing we are burning,
Rhythmically rolling, rolling...
Until magic-poesy
To be done, and fly to live,
Changing nature, soul, and hearts...
Universe around us
Is turning...
