Konya. Rain in Sille
Underneath the leafless tree
From the rain in shade I hid,
Took a gules leaf from ground,
And began to write the sounds
On it. Only rainy phrases,
And entanglement of branches
Have appeared on the wet
Leaf; "At least I've yet
Something overheard..."
On the boughs I hung the pieces
Of the verses erst unfinished,
Maybe rain it will continue...
"Listen to the tune withín you!"
Drizzling he replied. Around -
Hills of Sille sleepy-brown...
"Trees afar as sound shivering,
Rain is bluring forms; The meaning
Only on the paper humid, -
What I've painted, look at..."
Dervish came to me thus saying,
Drawing made in ink he gave me...
Dervish: I myself became the rain,
And reflection this I made...
He then began to sing:
شکر نعمت خوشتر از نعمت بود
شُکرباره کی سوی نعمت رود؟
شکر جانِ نعمت و نعمت چو پوست
ز آنک شُکر آرد ترا تا کوی دوست
Thanking for blessing better than blessing be;
Thankful, for blessing to seek has no need.
Thanking is spirit of blessing, the blessing as skin;
Gratitude you to the street of Beloved bring.
Rumi, Masnavi 3:2895-2896
Dervish: What is Gratitude? It is
Revealing of the mysteries and gifts...
The meaning of Gratitude in Arabic:
The unveiling and revealing.
Umar Suhrawardi
He said: Tell it plain,
To reveal the hidden is Remembrance of Faith.
Rumi, Masnavi 1:137
Me: Yet I saw in drawing yours
Lines for my unfinished verse:
Trees are mere wisp of fume,
In forgetfulness a tune;
In remoteness almost hint, -
Like not said yet, but it is...
Hills are under spell of rain -
Only seem, but seeming fade...
Further something rain concealed,
Key is absent, chest is sealed...
Dervish: Yes, it is because
Drawing this is window, breath...
Me: Thank you, master, and:
الحمد للرحمن تعالى
Glory be
to Rahmán, exalted is He!
Dervish:
And whatever you do, in word or in deed,
do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:17
Hark ye, men!
Give thanks to God, great
and majestic is He, for His blessing,
and look for it only from Him;
For He said, "Whatever ye have of good, -
it is from God."
