Konya. Secret of the Snow
In the morning falling snow
Said, "I something know..."
Through the hazy pane I heard
"I do know, and you do not..."
On the road are falling, melting
Flakes of snow; I wrote, "Tell me..."
But the letters faded, "Nay,
If you can, unravel way..."
I went on the road to seek,
But the road refused to speak.
On the slope of hill I sate,
In the snow dissolved the lane;
Only trees, and trees alone,
As if someone something wrote
In ink upon the white...
"You decipher'd secret mine..."
Uttered calmly snow,
Then repeated, ceased to go.
Every tree - calligraphy -
On the white began to speak...
"'Tis me, 'tis me this wrote
Long ago upon the snow;
Every verse become a tree, -
Composition this you see..."
Told the Dervish from the side,
"On this hill I wont to write..."
Dervish:
وقد كان بعضهم يقول: كلُّ آيةٍ
لا أتفهَّمَها، ولا يكون قلبي فيها
One of them used to say:
I don't understand the signs if
my heart isn't in it.
Al-Makki, 1
To see the hidden, you should first
To melt yourself in verse...
An emptiness you need
To read what has been writ...
Tell me what this tree speaks..?
Me: From this unending plenitude
I prostrate myself in Gratitude...
Dervish: But look,
I have another rhyme for you:
نعمت آرد غفلت، و شكر اِنتباه
صيد نعمت كن بدام شكرِ شاه
Welfare brings ignorance, gratitude - wakefulness;
Hunt the blessing with trap of thankfulness.
Rumi, Masnavi 3:2897
And while the snow has melted not,
Let's stroll among this garden odd -
Of lonely rhymes...
But scud of wind reminds that I
Haven't finished topic yet...
The essence of Gratitude: It is to see
everything decreed - as a blessing, except
that what is harmful to Faith; Because God,
exalted is He, decrees for His faithful servant
only that what in truth is good for him:
Whether it be of this world, - he will know it,
and understand; or of that world - suffering and
hardship. Whether it be for him a rank,
or test, or atonement.
Umar Suhrawardi
The further we -
The deeper meaning be...
وقال ابن مسعود رضى الله عنه:
الشّكر نصف الإيمان
Ibn Mas'ud said, be content with him God:
Gratitude is the half of Faith.
