سفر سوم به بغداد
الحركة مع الله رحلة
Motion with God is a journey.¹
Ibn 'Arabi
On the river shivering part
Of the moon, where is thy half?
- At another side it looks -
What is stolen from the view...
Tell me the nocturnal grass,
Why tonight you're brooding thus?
- Sign of parting in the dusk...
On the river's bank I sate,
For me, water, aught do say...
- The reflection of a duck
That came flying from Baghdad...
My ink-pot I took and scooped
Water with the shiv'ring moon.
- Hazy yellow tints I give
Like in water fallen leaf...
One or two upon the clock,
I see Dervish in a cloak...
Dervish: Close is bottom of the night,
I have stories you would like.
Me: I shall with pleasure listen to...
Dervish:
قيل لأبي يزيد: ما اسم الله الأعظم؟
فقال: أصدق وخذ أي اسم شئت
Abu Yazid was asked, "Which is
the greatest Name of God?" He replied,
"Be sincere, and take the Name you like."²

Each language has its rank,
For each Name - the way...
قال الحواريون لعيسى عليه السلام:
علمنا العلم الأكبر، فقال: الخوف من الله
عز وجل، والرضا بقضاء الله، والحب لله
The disciples asked Jesus, "Teach
us the greatest knowledge..." He
answered, "Fear of God,
Contentment with the decree of God,
and Love of God."
Al-Jilani
The fear of God is fundamental rule,
Who this forgot - is doomed.
وحكى عن أحمد بن عطاء الروذبارىّ قال:
كان لى مذهب فى أمر الطهارة؛ فكنت ليلة
من الليال أستنجى، إلى أن مضى ثلث الليل
ولم يطب قلبى، فتضجرت، فبكيت، وقلت:
يا ربّ، العفوّ. فسمعت صوتاً، ولم أر أحداً
يقول: يا أبا عبد لله العفوُ فى العلم
'Tis narrated that Ahmad bin Ata Al-Ruzabari
told: I used to practise purification. One night
I was trying to release myself, though
one third of night had passed, but my
heart still was not absolved, I cried
in despondency, implored, "O Lord, forgive!"
Then I heard a voice, though none was seen,
saying, "O Abu Abdallah,
the forgiveness - in knowledge!"
