Hamedan. Tomb of Ibn Sina
Good friend is he:
Who covers your flaws,
Who to you advice gives,
Who your secret does keep.
Ibn Sina
Moon was thawing lonely in the fog,
Fog was running, flowing, where?
But my sight, entangled thoughts
By the flow were stolen sallow...
Amber-yellow moon was dreaming,
That a sail with lantern she...
At the foggy sea is drifting,
But the strand is still not seen...
Throbbing gleam before me calling,
"What for strolling? Come..."
Little pool I see, methinks, beholding
Smouldering moon 'mid clouds dun...
Brittle calm upon the water
From the thought, from motion cleft;
The reflexes changing, flowing
I behold on water... dizzinéss
Me dipped in trance...
Figures, shapes converge and blend,
Figures new creating then...
For every part of sky - its clime;
Mystery has every tribe...
Sanity returned, the tomb before
Me holy of physician great...
As if wave of light and warmth
The cove of heart o'whelmed...
"What a goblet of midnight
Full of joy and sadness both.
Joy from reaching the degree; nigh
Is parting... Snow will go anon...
And shall fill this pool, and moon
Shall roll to North, all tracks
Will fall asleep beneath the snow; you
May ask..." Mag to me said...
I turned my head and saw
Him sitting in a shade as if
He himself was shadow... "Don't
Be afraid..." said he...
Me: Tell me, what the degree
Is mine? And when a rank is reached,
How can I know it?
Mag:
The sign to be shown,
The heart will feel, the heart will read...
Don't ask, but hark... And all
What ought to be revealed - shall be...
Me: O master, say
The most important of this way...
Mag:
Spend thy time for the most important,
seek Paradise with desire, for
it is abode of vision of God, exalted is He.
Ibn 'Arabi
Time is trenchant glaive,
Either you possess it, or it does ye slay...
Be always with truth,
free from falsehood.
Ibn 'Arabi
Truth - eternal rock,
The falsehood - veil and smoke...
Make free thy breast from envy and spite.
Ibn 'Arabi
If thou hast
Envy, spite 'gainst one of us -
Thou - not of us... If ye
Lay your way by making others slip -
Thou - not of us...
And flee from the road of comfort and ease,
and submit in every state to God,
exalted is He.
Ibn 'Arabi
To summit of a mount lead
Uneasy stony lanes,
When ways on valley be
Easy, common, and for all...
And be modest and mild,
and be ready to bear injures, pain.
Ibn 'Arabi
Noble crane doesn't care, how
You call him: a parrot or crow...
Be kind to the weak,
and clement to the small.
Ibn 'Arabi
Isn't the sun, isn't it
Shining both for strong and for weak?
Do not be cursing, blaming,
and chiding, and mocking.
Ibn 'Arabi
Be like sunset, it gives
Only love, beauty and wings...
Al-Junayd said: Four qualities in him
reside: Generosity, Love, Admonition,
and Kindness.
Umar Suhrawardi
The sunset all its beauty bestows,
All its rain gives rainy cloud...
Said one of them: He, who is arrogant -
shows the lowliness of his soul.
He, who is modest -
reveals the nobility of his nature.
Umar Suhrawardi
What is indeed a pride? -
A veil which makes thee blind.
Then he got silent for a while
Having immersed in thoughts, then woke,
And gave me yellow lunar stone,
On saying, "It is thine..."
