Lahore. The Sheranwala Gate

Wall as water still I tipped.

- What in frozen stream you seek?
I am current motionless...

I am looking for the depth...

- I begirt forgotten past,
There is stony rugged path...

Masonry I tipped again, -
From it only shadow grey
Fell on pavement. "It is nine
O'clock" I heard from side.
Wrapt in mantle, forth I slid,
As a gauze along the street.
Windows filled with purple dusk,
This I scooped, and drained the glass.
Yet the gate is saying, "Ranger!"
Nearby, a man in vesture
Black on mat is sitting, greeting...

Pir: What you seek in olden city?

Me: What the falcon left...

Pir: Listen then:

One of them said: I longed to see Al-Khadir.
Once I asked God, exalted is He, to reveal him
for me, that he may teach me something
very important for me. So I saw him then,
and told what ruffled my heart:
O Abu l'Abbas, teach me what to say, that
on saying that, I would become veiled
from the hearts of creatures. For I can't
myself do this, nor anyone could help.
He answered: Say, "O my God, cover me
with Thy veil very thick! And pavilions for me
Thy shrouding pitch! In Thy utmost concealed
make a dwelling for me! And from the
hearts of Thy creatures steal me!"
Then he disappeared. No more afterwards
I've seen him, neither desired to see.
Every day I repeated these words.
Al-Makki

A fisher asked the Brine, "A need
I have, perhaps, would be
The moon tonight to ask..."
"Say what you want from us?"
Replied the moon emerged.
"A seashell," Fisher said, "I sought,
But couldn't, couldn't find..."
"I'm only a reflection, why
You're asking me, but not the Brine?"
Reflection amber said...

The Sea: I gave thee even more, because
Thy heart's intention was
Sincere and good!

Abu Yazid said, be mercy of God upon him,
"Knowledge, it is when you know, that acts
and inaction of creatures are [caused]
by God." And without His permission
no one acts in His kingdom.
Ali Hujwiri

Me: In the shell what be?

Pir: The voice of Sea.

Me: The shell is what?

Pir: The inspiration from the God.

Me: If I commit misdeed...

Pir: For that you have free will.

Me: ...Will it be mine, or not?

Pir: 'Twill be yours. If not, -
Then wouldn't be free will,
Nor recompense.

Are not two sparrows sold for
a penny? And not one of them will fall
to the ground apart from your Father.
Matthew 10:29

By these words He poits to the providence
over all [creation]. The word "apart" shows
not the will, but foreknowledge. For what
happens, some happens by volition, and
some - by approval and assent.
